Moist / Well Drained Soi.

1-3 ' tall

Bee Balm, Hosresmint, Oswego Tea, or Bergamot is a genus of 16 species in the family Lamiacea. The genus is endemic to North America. It spreads quickly in shade and is prone to powdery mildew, but is perfect for borders when naturalized and is atractive to bees and hummingbirds. Monarda flowers from May through August.

Division is usually needed every 3 years as centers die out and to prevent excessive spread. Allow air circulation and provide sufficient moisture to reduce powedery mildew.

Zinnia is susceptible to powdery mildew, leaf spots, root rots, blight and Botrytis. Also, watch for Japanese beetles. A few diseases and pests aside this flower is worth trying. Zinnia attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and birds and their sturdy stems hold up very well in arrangements.
